Eadulf

Macbeth Journal #5

                Eadulf,
I write to you in a time of desperate need. For reasons I cannot explain, but you will soon be able to deduce; it is absolutely imperative that you complete the following task at hand… I need you and your most suitable men to do a dark deed which I haven’t the strength or heart to do. Bring forth all of your stealth and make sure that you are not seen or heard… It is paramount that you kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. Do not question me or my authority. If they are to exist in this world any longer, I fear it will gravely affect our futures. So much so that we could both be executed… If you fail to complete this scheme, I will make sure you endure the most painful of tortures and I will cut off your tongue. If this plan does not succeed, it would be impossible for me to cause as much physical damage to you as the failure would do to my reputation.

I’ve hired you for a reason,

Anticipation and Disposal

Macbeth Journal # 4
I confide to you, diary, very late at night or perhaps early in the morning. The sun has yet to rise, yet the moon’s perfect orb glows in the night’s sky amidst the Milkyway and the cosmos. I hear the stark cry...Once again I cannot get the words of the weird sisters to leave my head, they play and replay in their dull, monotone voices over and over again. It is driving me insane! I ponder constantly if Banquo is a threat to me? If he is supposed to father a line of kings, would it not be more effective if I ruined that prophecy to guarantee that my family shall prevail? Banquo is not himself around me; I can feel deep within my bones the coldness and distrust seeping towards me in the air. His eyes bore into mine as if he’s searching beyond the monster that has replaced me for a piece of the great warrior he once knew. I can tell by the way he squints his eyes at me that he knows that I killed Duncan; that he knows I am a tyrant. He surely anticipates my actions that have yet to come; therefore, the only way to save my future and to make sure he doesn’t ruin my plans is to dispose of him and his son... All the more blood to add to my crimson hands.

Tainted Daggers

Macbeth Journal #3
Oh what bloody deeds my hands have done! Not even the tears of an angel could purify them. Never shall these crimson stains be removed. For I have slain the king, whilst he sleeps...in my own manor. These daggers will always be imprinted with my flesh and tainted with my greed. My disloyalty shall be known amongst all. Guilt surges through me, carrying itself in my bloodstream, poisoning every inch of my body. My mind is forever churning with worries and paranoia. What should I do? I fear that what I’ve done has destroyed me...That I should flee to start a new life elsewhere! But if I do that, what will become of my ambitions to become king? My murder... oh my! It’s strange pronouncing those words. It would have been for nothing, I’d have released a soul from this world to realize that I am a coward. If I run away, I would be automatically a suspect. I must stay, my dreams will prevail and the future shall one day be in my hands. Vehemence and Malice surge through my blood, nothing will stop me!

Bravery and Valiance

Macbeth Journal #2
Tonight my hands will do the bloody deed that my ambition beckons me to do. My wife has questioned me as a man... only a true man would have the courage to slay a man when he is staying under his own roof. Or does it make me a coward that I will kill Duncan whilst he sleeps? Making my sleep no longer a place of innocence and purity, but a place where I am vulnerable to foe. Leaving my heart bare with no defence from merciless daggers... My disloyal, untrustworthy heart! Do I even know love or do I just have a powerful gripping lust for anything that could give me power? Do I love my wife or do I just keep her happy because I know that when she bears a son it will also benefit me? Oh, what man am I? I have the shell of a man for a body, but a weak cowering child lives within. My wife deserves better; for her I will become the powerful, almighty brave and valiant man she wants me to be! For I will be king and she will be my worthy queen!  Together we will rule all of Scotland!

Superstitions and fate

Macbeth Journal #1:
The weird sisters hath predicted my destiny and fate. I shall rise to immense power... This knowledge seems to have given birth to something within... almost a deep recklessness and merciless ambition. My hands hath the power to draw blood of those I trust; whom believe that I am loyal to them. I shall slay anyone who stands in my way of being king. The blood shall wash as easily from my hands as though it were nothing more than a speck of dirt. Oh... how the twisted sisters grasped my curiosity when they told Banquo that he would not be king, but have kings, and that he is less happy but far happier than I. Their twisted riddles and superstitions meddle with my mind and cause a yearning to take action. How may it be that Banquo’s rat, Fleance, may one day be king? Oh, such an outrage! Will Fleance be the one to murder me? Never... I shall be protected at all times and he would be killed by my guards if he even attempted to lay a finger on me. Soon my wife’s empty womb will fill with many male children creating a suitable heir, worthy of the throne. A great king hath many sons and great power, what else could bring a man more happiness?

Diary Character

For our MacBeth Play Diary, I would like to be the character of MacBeth. I feel that he is a complex character and writing about his emotions and thoughts will help me better understand him. Not only will I have a more detailed comprehension of the play, I will be capable of  making connections about all of the play's themes such as trust, self-worth, ambition and power to his character. He has a sense of mystery that I am eager to unravel.
